I'm a first time Res-iT'er (Epoxy Resin user) how do i use it?
Epoxy resin is a versatile and durable material that can be used for a variety of projects such as jewellery making, woodworking, and even as a coating for countertops and floors. Here are some general steps to follow when using epoxy resin:
- Prepare your work area: Epoxy resin can be messy and sticky, so it's important to work in a well-ventilated area with plenty of space. Cover your work surface with a plastic sheet or tarp to protect it.
- Mix the epoxy resin: Epoxy resin is typically a two-part system, consisting of a resin and a hardener. Follow the correct mixing ratio of 1:1 (50/50) and stir the components together thoroughly. Be sure to use a clean and dry mixing container.
- Apply the epoxy resin: Use a brush or a pourable spout to apply the mixed resin to your project. Spread the resin evenly over the surface and make sure to work out any bubbles or air pockets that may form.
- Wait for curing: After you have poured the mixed resin onto the surface and distributed evenly, continue to pour to achieve the desired thickness, allowing the resin to flow evenly over the projects sides. Resin can be poured up to 1/4 inch per pour and will start to dry within 30 minutes. If you are going to make a second pour, the first pour will still be slightly sticky, after the second pour bubbles may need to be removed again using the same technique mentioned. Material will feel hard after 45-60 minutes, cure to the point of workability is 24 hours, but full cure and maximum hardness can take up to 7 days depending on the temperature.
- Sand and polish: Once the epoxy resin has cured, you can sand the surface to smooth out any imperfections and then polish it to a high shine.
Some additional tips for working with epoxy resin include:
- Wear gloves to protect your hands from the sticky resin.
- Use a heat gun or torch to remove any air bubbles that may form while the resin is curing.
- Experiment with adding our Epoxy Res-iT Pigments for a unique but fabulous look.
- Be sure to clean up any spills or drips immediately with rubbing alcohol or acetone.
My Resin Part A has arrived cloudy
If your part A resin is either crystalised/cloudy/sludgy. Firstly we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused, BUT do not worry as this is a completely normal occurrence and can happen due to exposure to cold temperatures and may have happened at our warehouse. We can offer a quick solution that will make the resin A go back exactly to the way it is supposed to be. It is really easy just follow these simple steps:
1. Find a small bucket big enough to fit the part A resin bottle inside
2. Thereafter place the resin A bottle in the bucket and fill the bucket with kettle boiled water, NOTE: the last bit is really important, it needs to be kettle boiling water, which can be mixed with hot tap water in 50/50... and this will de-crystalise and in a sense melt the resin particles and it will reverse the crystal reaction and go back into liquid form for you to use.
3. TIP: shake the bottle in 10 minute intervals to help speed-up the process, this trick is really handy and will work a treat! Give this a try and you should be good to go! if you still have issues thereafter please contact us and we will respond with a resolution.
4. Before you use the resin, ensure it has cooled down to room temperature and thereafter it will be ready to use.
