Why use an epoxy resin calculator?

Epoxy is unique — once mixed, resin and hardener react and cannot be reversed. Getting the volume right helps you avoid:

  • Running out halfway through a pour
  • Mixing too much and wasting material
  • Colour differences in layered pours
  • Uneven surfaces or improper curing
How to calculate epoxy coverage

Rectangular or square surfaces — use length, width and coating thickness in inches. The calculator multiplies these and converts to litres, millilitres, ounces and gallons.

Round or circular surfaces — enter diameter and thickness. We use π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × thickness for the total volume.

Mixing ratios made simple

Most epoxy systems use a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio by volume. After calculating your total:

  • Split evenly for 1:1 (50% resin, 50% hardener)
  • Use 2 parts resin to 1 part hardener for 2:1
  • Mix slowly to reduce bubbles, then pour within working time

If your kit uses a different ratio, apply that same split to the total volume shown.

  • Round up slightly — a little extra beats running short
  • Seal porous wood before the main pour
  • Uneven surfaces absorb more resin
  • Deep pours may need multiple layers
  • Temperature and humidity affect curing
